Spiritual Education and Enrichment Classes
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in classes, whether or not credentialing is a goal. In class, you will get to know your fellow travelers along the spiritual path, and you will gain more understanding about how to put spiritual principles to work in your life. Additionally, we laugh a lot, we cry together sometimes, and we have the opportunity to PRACTICE together. Our fifth Unity principle states that it is not enough to know these principles, but that we must actually LIVE the Truth we know. Classes help us do this, and we hope you'll join us.
SEE (Spiritual Education and Enrichment) classes are offered on a love offering basis, and EVERYONE is welcome to attend. A limited number of books may be available at class. All are available on Amazon.com, through Unity.org or on abebooks.com if you prefer to buy recycled books. For those who are interested in credentialing as Unity teachers or ministers, Unity Institute credit is generally available. Please speak with Rev. Nita or one of our Licensed Unity Teachers, Barbara McLawhorn or Susan Sellers if you have questions about classes or credentialing.
Barbara McLawhorn, LUT will facilitate this series, presented by permission from Sounds True. Discussion will follow each episode.
What did Jesus teach? Emmet Fox's answer in The Sermon on the Mount is simple. The Bible is a "textbook of metaphysics" and the teachings of Jesus express--without dogma--a practical approach for the development of the soul and for the shaping of our lives into what we really wish them to be.
Some of the topics we will address as we read, study and discuss this book are: Understanding the true nature of divine wisdom. Tapping into the power of prayer. Transforming negative attitudes into life-affirming beliefs. Claiming our divine right to the full abundance of life. A limited number of new and used copies of the book will be available for purchase at class. Some library copies will also be available.
SEE Credit Class: Unity Prayer
Saturdays, 10/7 - 11/4, 9:30 - 11:30 am
Rev. Nita will facilitate this class, which is a required class for those pursuing credentialing as Unity leaders. We'll look at what is meant by "praying from..." instead of "praying to...", and how our prayers allow us to live our divinity. We'll also talk about our language; we tend to use habitual language, such as "Dear God..." If God is not an external Diety, then to whom exactly are we addressing our prayers? This is a different look at prayer, and you may experience a bit of discomfort- which, in this case, is a good thing! Bring your open mind and your willingness. Our text is "How to Pray Without Talking to God" by Rev. Linda Martella-Whitsett, the Vice-President of Unity's Silent Unity prayer ministry. A few gently-used books will be available for purchase at class, you may also purchase copies through your favorite online bookseller. (Also available in e-book form through Amazon.com or Unity.org
